At the heart of Middlesbrough you’ll find the town hall - a flagship, cultural venue that has seen the likes of Radiohead, David Bowie and Oasis perform over the years. After recently securing over £7 million worth of lottery funds, the Grade II listed building is being restored back to its former glory. With a diverse history and culture, the team behind the town hall approached us with a brief - to create a public-facing campaign that would celebrate its history and heritage, whilst also building up excitement and momentum for its re-opening in 2018.
Nostalgia was key to our campaign creative. Based around the concept of ‘making history’, our brand concept was two-fold - we were engaging the local community by showcasing the building's heritage by focusing on what has “made history”, and also looking forward to a new future, encouraging people to embrace change and “make history” by creating new memories and experiences at the restored town hall. The campaign name ‘My Town Hall’ gives ownership back to the public, positioning the town hall as an asset to cherish and protect.
